Masjid Etiquettes & Policy
Masjid Ibrahim has been established to serve the Muslim community and to offer opportunities for religious, educational and Islamic social activities.
Masjid Policy
All activities are expected to comply with Islamic teaching, and all people visiting or using the Masjid premises are expected to behave in accordance with Islamic teaching and etiquette.
In order to safeguard and protect the Masjid, and for activities to be conducted in an orderly and disciplined fashion in accordance with Islamic etiquette, all visitors to and users of the Masjid are expected to observe the following policies, rules, and regulations. These will be reviewed periodically and amended as necessary.
checkroom Dress Code & Clothing

- check_circle Men and women are expected to dress modestly according to Islamic teaching.
- check_circle Clothing should cover the whole body in a non-revealing way. In addition, women are expected to wear a headscarf.
- check_circle Shirts advertising rock bands, messages, etc. should be avoided.
child_care Young Children

- check_circle Young children are welcome and encouraged to attend the Masjid, but must be under the supervision of their parents / guardians or other authorised adults.
- check_circle It is the parents’ / guardians’ responsibility to watch over their children, keep them safe, and make sure they do not disturb prayers or activities, or harm themselves.
- check_circle Masjid Ibrahim shall not be held liable or responsible for children left unattended inside or outside on Masjid property.

- check_circle All personal or public announcements shall be made in writing, with prior approval from The Shura’ sought and obtained.
- check_circle Announcements for Friday prayer must be e-mailed or otherwise communicated to The Shura’ by 5 pm on Thursday.
- check_circle Exceptions may be made after consultation with, and prior approval of, The Shura’.

- check_circle Sh Shabir Moosa Adam is the Imam of the Masjid, assisted by Sh Abubakar.
- check_circle In their absence, any member of The Shura’ present will assign someone amongst those attending the prayer, in accordance with the Sunnah.
- check_circle If no member of The Shura’ is present, those attending will select the most knowledgeable person present, in accordance with the Sunnah.

- check_circle Food can only be served in designated areas, in activities that are Islamically compliant and for which prior approval has been obtained from The Shura’.
- check_circle Those who serve food and/or organise activities must ensure all leftover food and items used are removed from the premises, and the area used is cleaned.

- check_circle People attending Masjid activities are expected to show proper cleanliness in clothes and body.
- check_circle Users of the washrooms and wudu (ablution) areas are expected to leave them as clean and tidy as possible after use.
mic Masjid Speaking Policy

- check_circle Individuals or groups wishing to address the congregation must obtain prior permission from The Shura’, requested at least 3 days in advance, with a detailed plan of the talk / presentation / lecture submitted and approved at least 3 days beforehand.
- check_circle The Shura’ reserves the right not to grant approval.
- check_circle The Shura’ may interrupt or cancel any approved activity if it deviates from the submitted plan, conflicts with Masjid policies, or is judged not in accordance with Islamic teaching or etiquette.

- check_circle Masjid Ibrahim will establish guidelines for the selection of books and literature placed in the Masjid.
- check_circle Prior approval of The Shura’ must be obtained before books and/or literature are placed in the Masjid.
- check_circle No books and/or literature shall be distributed or posted before prior approval is obtained.

- check_circle Cell phones must be turned off during the five daily prayers and Friday / Eid prayers.
volunteer_activism Charity & Donations

- check_circle All public donations or collections must receive prior approval of The Shura’, and funds shall be channelled through Masjid Ibrahim.
- check_circle Donations to the Masjid Fund go towards meeting Masjid expenses.
- check_circle Zakat funds shall be distributed in accordance with the Quranic text (Qur’an 9:60); donors are given a choice as to where their Zakat should be directed.
- check_circle Sadaqah (charitable donations) shall be distributed according to recipients’ needs.
bedtime Overnight Stay

- check_circle The Masjid closes after Isha prayer; no one is allowed to stay overnight inside the Masjid.
- check_circle Exceptions require prior approval of The Shura’, requested at least 3 days in advance.
- check_circle Special overnight stay is allowed during Ramadan for I’tikaf and/or Qiyam al-Layl (night prayer), with prior notification and approval.
- check_circle The Shura’ reserves the right not to grant permission for overnight stay.
school Teachings & Halaqas

- check_circle Quranic and Islamic teachings, and halaqas (study circles), are encouraged. Brothers and sisters wishing to establish such activities must obtain prior approval of The Shura’.
redeem Donated Items

- check_circle Furniture, clothes, food or other donated items must not be brought to the Masjid unless prior approval has been obtained from The Shura’.

- check_circle Only Masjid Ibrahim / Masjid-related news or items approved by The Shura’ are allowed on the Masjid notice board.
- check_circle No advertising material (flyers, business cards, etc.) shall be placed inside the Masjid or dropped off without prior approval.
diversity_1 Marriage (Nikah)

- check_circle Islamic marriage ceremonies shall be solemnised at the Masjid, by the Imam.
- check_circle The rules for serving food apply during this event.
mosque Friday Prayer

- check_circle No person will be allowed to stand and give a talk at any time without prior approval of The Shura’ (see the Masjid Speaking Policy).
smoke_free Smoking

- check_circle Smoking is not allowed anywhere on Masjid property — inside or outside the Masjid.
rule Masjid Usage

- check_circle The prayer area is used only in accordance with Islamically acceptable norms. No private gatherings or private educational classes without prior permission of The Shura’.
- check_circle For the comfort of others, avoid socialising in the hallway — please socialise outside the Masjid.
- check_circle There are separate wudhu / bathroom areas for brothers and sisters. Leave them clean and tidy, lights off, and trash in the designated receptacles.
- check_circle Men and boys must sit when going to the washroom.
- check_circle Shoes must be removed and placed in the shoe racks.
- check_circle No food or drinks are allowed in the Masjid, inside or outside.
- check_circle Photography / video is not allowed in the Masjid building without prior approval of The Shura’.
- check_circle Only authorised persons may use the Masjid microphone and sound system.
local_parking Parking

- check_circle Parking is only allowed in designated areas. Vehicles blocking entrances or parked in prohibited areas will be clamped at the owner’s expense, payable to the Masjid.
- check_circle Park appropriately and do not block anyone, especially at Friday prayer, Taraweeh and Eid prayers.
- check_circle No overnight parking without prior approval of The Shura’. Masjid Ibrahim is not responsible for vehicles left overnight.
- check_circle Vehicles left overnight without approval will be clamped at the owner’s expense.
- check_circle Do not park in the neighbours’ driveways or block them.
- check_circle Masjid Ibrahim assumes no liability for damage to vehicles or their contents in the parking lot.
These policies, rules and regulations are maintained by The Shura’ and are reviewed periodically and amended as necessary. For clarification or requests requiring approval, please contact the Masjid office.
